PLATELET RICH PLASMA

Platelet Rich Plasma for Hair Restoration

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has been used for decades in various medical disciplines such as sports medicine, orthopedics, oral surgery, and neurosurgery to repair and regenerate damaged tissues. PRP has been proven effective in slowing hair loss and improving scalp hair caliber and density. It is especially useful in combating thinning hair before complete baldness. PRP is extracted from the patient’s own blood and a result of this, there is virtually no risk of allergic reactions or side effects. Within your PRP there are at least seven different growth factors that stimulate hair growth and many others that rejuvenate the scalp tissues.

FAQS
Who is the ideal candidate for PRP Scalp?
The ideal candidate is one that is in the early stages of hair loss. As PRP can increase the amount of hairs in the treated area up to 30%, the more hairs you have to begin with, the greater increase you will have.

How much is a PRP Scalp treatment?
As multiple treatments are required for optimal results we offer packages of 3 sessions for initial treatment series for $1950. The maintenance treatments are purchased individually for $650 per treatment.

Is it painful and how long does it take?
The whole treatment time is approximately 30 to 45 minutes  however the administration of the processed PRP only takes about 15 minutes. Dr. Maloney discusses pain control and options can include nerve blocks which numb the scalp and make the actual treatment painless or nearly so.

I have had a hair transplant, can I still do PRP Scalp?
You can add the PRP Scalp treatment before or after a hair transplant, in fact many transplant clinics recommend PRP treatment a month and a week prior to the procedure and a week and a month after. Maintenance PRP treatments  can help with ensuring the transplanted hair is healthier and grows faster. It can also stimulate the existing thin hair to be thicker and healthier to help fill in the transplanted area.

When will I see results?
Most patients report a visual increase in fine hair growth approximately 3 months after their 3rd session. Many patients see results sooner due to decreased shedding and others require repeated treatments before visible results are seen.

What kind of downtime can I expect?
As your PRP is delivered by injection, there is always a possibility of bruising and the fluid that is added can cause temporary inflammation of the treated area.

What should I avoid after the treatment?
You can resume most normal activities right after the treatment. The only thing that we ask you to avoid is applying any harsh chemicals to your scalp for up to 72 hours after your treatment, this includes hair dye and refrain from heavy workouts or washing your hair until the next day.
